How we got here
Obsidian Detail Studios started from one idea: getting your vehicle detailed shouldn't mean dropping it off, losing a day, and hoping the shop does it right. So we bring the studio to you and finish the whole job wherever your vehicle is parked.
We set up in Hillsborough with one mobile rig and a trailer full of professional-grade equipment. From day one we ran as a mobile-first studio, not a shop that "also does mobile" when it's slow. This is an owner-operator outfit. You deal with the person doing the work, not a franchise call center or a front desk that hands your keys to whoever's free. The van carries its own water tank and its own power, so a full detail can happen in your driveway, at an apartment lot, in an office garage, or on a boat still sitting on its trailer. You don't supply a hose, an outlet, or any prep.
That setup matters most when you compare the alternatives. A fixed shop needs your car for the better part of a day, and a national franchise runs your job through a script. We built the opposite: you keep your keys, we come to you, and the work gets done on your schedule. Instead of paying for a storefront and a lobby, we put the money into equipment, products, and the training that changes how a vehicle looks.
The base is Hillsborough, but Durham is where most of the volume lives, and we work the whole corridor around it. Driveways in Durham and Hillsborough, condo lots near downtown Durham, faculty homes and hospital-staff parking around Chapel Hill and Carrboro, plus the quieter towns most detailers skip, like Mebane and Roxboro, with spillover into Morrisville when the schedule allows. It goes past cars too. We pull boats and campers back to a clean finish out at Falls Lake and Jordan Lake, and we cover the uncontested aircraft work at RDU and the smaller regional fields. Plenty of detailers say they're "mobile." Few are built for it the way we are. We carry our own water and power, so you never have to supply a hose or an outdoor outlet, and we can work at a single-family home, an apartment lot, a condo deck, an office garage, or a boat ramp.
We're also one of the only mobile teams in the Durham area doing ceramic coating and paint correction on-site. Most shops insist those have to happen indoors; we built our process to do them in your driveway. And it isn't just cars. We detail boats, RVs and campers, work fleets, and aircraft with the same rig and the same standard. We're licensed and insured, and our packages are quoted up front on the request a quote form, with no "call for a quote" runaround.

Where is Obsidian based?+
We're based in Hillsborough, NC, and we run the whole Durham–Hillsborough–Chapel Hill corridor from there. Durham carries most of our volume, and we also detail across Carrboro, Mebane and Roxboro, with spillover into Morrisville when the calendar lines up.
